CHRISTMAS RAFFLE AND UPDATE

It's crazy that it's already Christmas time! I feel like the past few months have flown by and I've just been trying to get my body acclimated to the cold weather. As the weather goes from warm to cold and cold to warm my body is thrown for a loop. One thing with a spinal cord injury is that my body struggles to adapt with the change in temperature. As much as I used to love the snow, I'm really not a big fan anymore. Once I get cold, it takes me hours of being under a mountain of blankets just to get back to normal. Another crazy thing is that my nerves might be going crazy and I feel like I'm cold, but in reality, my body is pretty warm. Nerve pain is such a crazy thing. Just think when your hands get really cold and they start to get warm again and you feel the pins and needles, or when your hands or feet go to sleep and the sensation starts coming back, that's how my nerve pain feels times 10! So that's my rant on the cold weather! But hey, it's just another hurdle that I have to overcome. On the positive side, this time year amazing food and holiday treats find their way to me! My family is definitely not shy when it comes to whipping up some comfort food. Especially my Grandma Bigelow's (Grama Babe as we call her) cooking/baking! Oh buddy, talk about some amazing creations!
So besides eating great food, I've been busy getting back into therapy. I did take about 14 weeks off because of a pressure sore that I needed to get healed up. Pressure sores are no joke! Even though the sore was in a spot where I technically should not be able to feel, I could definitely feel it. The sore felt like I had a hot coal on it all the time. So finally, it's healed up and I'm ready to go! Right now I'm going up to Walk The Line to SCI Recovery therapy every Monday and will begin going up on Thursday as well at the beginning of the year. Even though I took a long time off to heal the sore, when I started back a month ago, the trainers noticed that actually felt stronger than when I left. I guess the time off was good for my body! My core strength has been much stronger, and I'm able to set up and balance on my own at the edge of the table. And not just sitting, but sitting up straight with my head up! Sounds so simple, but the smallest things for me are huge victories. I'm still accumulating some pictures, so when I get a good one. I'll be sure to post it.
To keep the process going at therapy, last year Team Bigelow put on a small fundraiser raffle. This year we're raffling off a XBOX ONE with Kinect to anyone that is interested. This Xbox will do it all! Not just video games, but will control your Netflix, Hulu, Blu-ray DVDs, and even the Internet.
Tickets are 1 for $10, 3 for $25, or 5 for $40 and will be available through tomorrow evening at 5pm. The drawing will take place tomorrow, Sunday December 21st around 6 p.m.
I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season! Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers. I am truly blessed!
KEEP BELIEVING,
J

On October 3rd, 2010 my life and those lives around me, changed at a drop of a hat. Myself and a group of friends were in a severe car accident where I was injured and suffered a traumatic Spinal Cord Injury that left me paralyzed from the shoulders down. It has been a long journey, but thanks to Team Bigelow, you continue to take steps forward towards recovery!
